Are you a weirdo?
When I was growing up, I didn't fit in with most of the cliques at school. I was an only child and a latch-key kid, who never had the image or attitude to fit into any particular group. I was too clumsy to be in sports and lost interest in most clubs after I figured out how much work it would take to actually be good. The one exception being writing. I loved to write, and I wrote all the time. Poetry, short stories, songs, and I journaled constantly. Writing was my escape and my therapy. It was how I dealt with my dad having to work all the time to support us, with my mother who left us when I was only five, and with my step-monster who felt it was her personal mission in life to torture me. I had one friend who was my rock, she helped me keep my shit together when it seemed like everything was falling apart. We became friends int he 6th grade and are still friends today. It wasn't until I was a bit older when I started to find my people. Who are my people? They are the misfits, the dropouts, the freaks, the outsiders, the lone wolves. My people are people who never quite fit in to any one group, who embrace the intensity of life’s pain and pleasure, people who see the beauty in blemishes, people who have been mocked for unbridled expression of love in all its forms, and people who have been broken by life's crazy circumstances, but refuse to give in and give up. Does that sound like you? If so, then welcome home.
